Hong Kuai Essential Oil

Hong kuai [pronounced hong kw-eye] (Chamaecyparis formosensis) is a treasured tree found only in the steep mountain rain forests of Taiwan. Hong kuai trees typically live 1,000 to 2,000 years. The naturally fallen logs possess a sesquiterpene-rich, woody aroma. Hong kuai’s lasting woody aroma makes it a prized lumber for building temples and shrines; its name in Chinese characters means “The respected trees for the temple building society.” Traditionally, Hong kuai essential oil was used to support respiratory health, meditation, men’s cologne, and as an air enhancer prior to the arrival of honored guests.
